Feminist Manifestos by Gabriela López Dena

Gabriela López Dena is the current Graduate Student Fellow in Art and Social Justice at the Vera List Center for Art and Politics. The fellowship, sponsored by The New School’s Social Justice Committee, enables a New School graduate student to assist in various aspects of the Vera List Center’s social justice-focused programs. The graduate fellow is tasked with establishing and maintaining vibrant and reciprocal connections between the Center and the Social Justice Committee, as well as other social justice efforts across the university.

As part of her fellowship, López Dena selected 23 manifestos that she deemed relevant and meaningful enough to be performed by a diverse group of women from across The New School community, including students, faculty, administrators, alumni, and maintenance staff.

López Dena’s work, called “Feminist Manifestos”, anchors the Freedom of Speech seminar series at the Vera List Center. Each reading in the series was precisely situated in a specific location on campus and inscribed into its history; additionally, the demands of each particular manifesto was relevant to the site of the performance.

López Dena’s work was presented live as a part of the Vera List Center’s Freedom of Speech series, and can be viewed below.
