International LGBT Rights, Taught by Cyril Gosh
International LGBT Rights is a survey course focusing on the rights, recognition, and struggles of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer-identified people, and other non-heterosexual individuals, as well as sexual orientation and gender identity minorities in the Global North as well as the Global South.
Offered through the Julien J. Studley Graduate Programs in International Affairs, the course has three modules: It begins with a broad overview of the discourse of human rights in international law and then surveys the literature on the rights of sexual minorities.
The course is taught by Cyril Ghosh, a part-time faculty member at the Studley Graduate Programs in International Affairs.
This spring, he welcomes guest lecturers to the course from various LGBT rights organizations coming. Recent guests include Noah Lewis, founder of Transcend Legal, a national, New York City-based organization focused on eliminating barriers to insurance coverage for transgender-related health care.
Ghosh recently sat down with the International Affairs program to discuss his recent publication, De-Moralizing Gay Rights: Some Queer Remarks on LGBT+ Rights Politics in the US ( Palgrave Macmillan, 2018). Read that interview on the International Affairs blog.
