Studio Series: Lesvos

Studio Series: Lesvos is a short film about the collaborative research that students and faculty in the Studley Graduate Programs in International Affairs have been conducting since 2016.

Students and faculty in the International Affairs program, home to the International Field Program, have been following the migration routes that millions of refugees have taken throughout Europe. In following these migration routes, International Affairs students and faculty seek to better understand refugees’ experiences; to think critically about the political, social, and organizational responses to those who have been forced to leave their homes; and to create new solutions to better serve these displaced populations.

Studio Series: Lesvos features Everita Silina, assistant professor of International Affairs, as well as four graduate students who spent the summer of 2018 in Lesvos, Greece, working with local NGOs and conducting research with various actors related to the refugee crisis on the island. Their research was performed as part of the Migration Studio, a new study option designed to place collaboration and engaged learning at the center of the International Affairs curriculum.

The film was directed and produced by four New School alumni Melissa De La Cruz (MA International Affairs ’17), Amanda Langworthy (MA Media Studies ’18) Laura Nitz (MA International Affairs ’17), and Bianca Rogers (MA International Affairs ’17).
