Sanctuary Working Group

The Sanctuary Working Group at The New School advocates for university to become a sanctuary campus. Through its collective, comprised of the TNS DREAM Team, undocumented and international students, allied students, faculty, and staff, the Sanctuary Working Group provides resources, trainings, and programming for communities affected by racist and anti-immigrant policies and their allies.

Specifically, the Sanctuary Working Group members identify steps the university can take in order to create a safe and inclusive environment.

Beyond the New School community, the collective advances the national and global discourse on the many ways in which immigrant and refugee communities are impacted by racist laws, policies, and behaviors.

At a recent event at The New School, Alexandra Délano Alonso, assistant professor and chair of the Global Studies program joined Jackie Vimo, PhD candidate at the New School for Social Research and Policy Analyst at the National Immigration Law Center, in discussion about the concept of sanctuary. The event part of the Expanded Sanctuary series that took place during the spring of 2018.
